A beautiful early morning sky show

This image overlay of the phases of this morning's lunar eclipse, was captured using a Canon SL1 camera mounted on a tripod with a 6 second shutter, an aperture of F11, and an ISO between 200-800. A 75-300mm lens was used. To display the passage of time and the changing of the state of the moon, Gillespie, a UC Merced student, stayed up from 3:00am until approximately 6:00am, taking photos every 10-20min.

Moon watchers received quite a show early Wednesday morning when, for the first time in 35 years, a blue moon combined with a supermoon and a total lunar eclipse. The rare occurrence gave the moon a tinge of red hue – thus the name, blood moon. University of California at Merced studnet Sierra Gillespie took this image overlay of the phases of the lunar eclipse
