Structure fire reported in Merced
A structure in an alley near downtown Merced caught fire Tuesday, according to firefighters.
The Merced City Fire Department around 12:15 p.m. responded to reports of the fire in an alleyway near Canal Street between 21st and 22nd streets, according to Deputy Chief Tom England.
No one was inside the two-story building when crews arrived to find the second floor engulfed, England said. It's unclear whether anyone lived in the single-family residence in 400 block of 22nd Street.
No injuries were reported.
Three fire engines and a ladder truck responded, he said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
