Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle on Yosemite Parkway, Merced police say

A Merced resident was killed Wednesday evening when he was struck by a vehicle, authorities said.

Merced police said officers responded to the collision at about 7:40 p.m. in the area of Yosemite Parkway and Marthella Avenue, according to a news release.

Police said the driver, Nathan Rodriguez, 27, of Fontana, Calif., was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 utility truck westbound on Yosemite Parkway when he struck the 63-year-old man. Police said the man was not using a crosswalk and was in the middle of the road.

According to authorities, the pedestrian sustained major injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rodriguez cooperated with police and remained at the scene. Neither drugs nor alcohol were a factor in the collision, police said.

Merced police ask anyone with information regarding the collision to contact the Merced Police Department Traffic Division at 209-388-7719 or the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at 209-385-4725.

According to police, information can be sent via anonymous text message to the police department by dialing “TIP411” (847411) and include the word “Comvip” as the “keyword” in the text message.
