Blaze causes ‘extensive damage’ to Merced home, fire officials say
Five adults were displaced from their home on Friday afternoon after a fire caused extensive exterior damage, according to the Merced Fire Department.
Fire officials responded to the call at about 1 p.m. to a home on Black Hawk Avenue., near Mallard Drive in North Merced.
Active Battalion Chief Shawn Luce said there were no injuries and firefighters were able to get the blaze under control relatively quickly.
“There was one resident at home at the time of the fire and he was able to get out safely unharmed,” Luce said. “There was pretty extensive damage to the exterior. The fire may have started in the exterior. It also got up into the attic.”
Four engines arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire.
Luce says the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it doesn’t look like there was intentional. No animals were harmed.
