Pedestrian struck and killed by train in Planada

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train on Friday night in Planada, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers responded to a call from the train conductor of a BNSF Railway train just after 8 p.m. on Friday, according to Deputy Daryl Allen. The incident occurred in the area of Santa Fe Avenue and Plainsburg Road in Planada.

The victim was a woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, but has not been identified, pending notification of family, Allen said.
