Merced City Schools reducing number of locations where free meals can be picked up
The Merced City School District is reducing the number of schools that are serving meals to students during the temporary school closures.
The move made by the district is an attempt to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the virus that causes COVID-19.
“This change is being made to allow more staff members to stay home to practice social distancing and for campuses to be professionally cleaned,” the MCSD said in a release
The school district has served more than 92,000 meals in the first seven days of the school closures, including 16,000 on Friday alone.
As another safety precaution, moving forward, when parents drive up to the curbside meal distribution sites, MCSD staff will ask them to pop open the trunk and allow staff to place the meals inside, when possible.
Parents can still pick up the breakfast and lunches from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 10 different campuses. Those schools are:

▪ Fremont Elementary, 2150 S St.
▪ Givens Elementary, 2900 Green St.
▪ Hoover Middle, 800 E. 26th St.
▪ Peterson Elementary, 848 E. Donna Drive
▪ Reyes Elementary, 123 S. N St.
▪ Rivera Elementary, 945 Buena Vista Drive
▪ Stefani Elementary, 2768 Ranchero Lane
▪ Stowell Elementary, 251 E. 11th St.
▪ Tenaya Middle, 760 W. 8th St.
