Three suspects arrested for robbery, car-jacking in Merced, police say
Three suspects were arrested on suspicion of carjacking and robbery on Friday in Merced, according to police.
Officers tracked down the stolen vehicle and found Zachary Richardson, 21, of Merced, asleep in the vehicle. He allegedly was in possession of several of the victim’s credit cards and driver’s license. Two other male juveniles ran from the vehicle when officers arrived. Both suspects were pursued by officers and taken into custody.
One of the juvenile suspect was in possession of the victim’s American Express credit card. A replica handgun was found in the victim’s vehicle.
Police originally responded to a call of a robbery and carjacking at on the 1300 block of West 16th Street at 4:01 p.m. The victim was reportedly assaulted, robbed and car-jacked at gunpoint, according to police. The victim said there were three to five suspects involved, including one armed with a gun. The victim’s wallet, cellphone and car keys were taken during the assault. The suspects fled the area in the victim’s vehicle but were located at 6:43 p.m., police said.
According to police, all three suspects admitted to their involvement in the robbery, assault and car-jacking. Richardson was booked into the Merced County Jail and the two juveniles were booked into the Merced County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of robbery, carjacking, auto theft and conspiracy.
A fourth suspect, identified as a female in her mid to late 20’s is still outstanding.
