Driver in stable condition after possible DUI collision in Merced, according to police
A driver is in stable condition after behind ejected from his vehicle in a possible DUI collision on Saturday morning in Merced, according to police.
Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Collins Drive for a report of a female screaming for help at 12:46 a.m.. Officers arrived on the scene and found a vehicle that had rolled over. The driver had been ejected from the vehicle, police said.
According to police, the driver was awake and speaking to officers as they waited for the fire department and an ambulance. Alcohol could be smelled on the driver’s breath, according to police. Officers also noticed several containers of alcohol in and around the vehicle.
The driver was transported to a local trauma center. A blood test was obtained for later testing, according to police.
The driver was not placed under arrest due to his injuries. Once the chemical test results are received from the lab, the case will be sent to the district attorney for review of possible charges, according to police
Merced City Public Works also responded to live power lines that had been exposed when the driver reportedly struck a light pole. Several trees needed to be removed after they are allegedly knocked down by the vehicle during the collision.
