Two known gang members arrested after gun found in vehicle, police say

Two suspected gang members were arrested Friday in Merced after officers stopped a vehicle and found a hidden firearm.

The Merced Police Department Gang Violence Suppression Unit stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of South Canal Drive at 5:15 p.m.

The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Damian Carpio, 27, and Marcus Vasquez, 21. Both are documented gang members, according to police.

Officers located a gun hidden under the driver seat.

Carpio and Vasquez were both booked at the Merced County Jail for suspicion of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and gang enhancements.
