Town hall meetings

Community members are invited to attend town hall events in Merced, Livingston and Los Banos to hear information on changes to Community Access to Recovery Services, or CARS, beginning July 1. The Livingston meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Prusso Community Center, 848 Prusso St. The meeting in Los Banos runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 40 G St. The Merced meetings are set for 1 to 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at 1137 B St.

Merced-Atwater Tea Party meeting

The Merced-Atwater Tea Party’s regular monthly meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30p.m. Thursday at the Atwater Memorial Building, Fifth Street and Broadway Avenue in Atwater. The speaker will be Eric Eisenhammer, founder of the Coalition of Energy Users. He will be talking about the California Air Resources Board, fracking, gas taxes and job creation. This event is open to the public.

Genealogy lecture

Barbara Washburn is the speaker this month at the Merced County Genealogical Society meeting. Washburn is a family history specialist with more than 20 years of experience. Her topic is “Finding Lost Cousins and Living Relatives.” The meeting is at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Gracey Room, Merced County Library, 2100 O St. The meeting is open to the public.

Merced Sun-Star business awards

The Merced Sun-Star on Wednesday will launch a new program aimed at recognizing the community’s best businesses and their owners. The Excellence in Business program will grant eight awards to area businesses, and one person in the community will receive the Hall of Fame award. Winners will be announced July 29 in the Sun-Star. To nominate a business or a person, click here. The deadline to submit nominations is July 16.

AARP Merced’s Monthly Meeting

The AARP Merced Chapter monthly meeting will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. June 24 at the Merced Senior Community Center, 755 W. 15th St. After the meeting, lunch will be served for $3. The meeting is open to the public.

Merced College aikido class

Merced College Community Services will be offering aikido classes beginning July 7 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 27. The cost is $65 per participant. For more information, call (209) 384-6224 or email communitysvc@mccd.edu.

Atwater class reunion

The Atwater High School Class of 1975 will hold its 40th class reunion from 2 to 10 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Lake Yosemite Fish and Game building.
