Authorities are investigating a Merced shooting that sent a man to the hospital with injuries on Sunday.

At about 1 a.m., police officers responded to the 100 block of Royce Lane on a report of shots fired in the area, according to Merced Police Sgt. Christian Lupian. Arriving officers found an adult male at a residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the victim was flown to an out of area hospital for treatment of his injuries. The man’s condition is unknown at this time.

According to Lupian, Merced Police Department detectives responded to the scene, spoke with witnesses in the area and requested the Crime Scene Response Team. During the investigation, authorities located evidence of a shooting including shell casings, according to police. No suspects have been identified at this time.

“To my knowledge, it’s still really early on in their investigation,” said Lupian. “They haven’t developed any leads.”

According to police, it’s unclear what the victim was doing at the time of the incident and a possible motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Merced Police Sgt. Jeremy Salyers at 209-388-7771.
