Flapjack Fundraiser
The Merced-area Crime Stoppers will host its annual Flapjack Fundraiser from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Applebee’s, 1734 W. Olive Ave. The cost is $10 per person. The Crime Stoppers program allows any individual to report information about crimes and criminals and remain anonymous. For more information, call 209-761-5303.
Health fair
Castle Family Health Centers will hold the eighth annual Summer Family Health Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 at 3605 Hospital Road in Atwater; admission is free. The event offers free health screenings for vision, hearing, diabetes and blood pressure, as well as breast exams and dental for children. Sports physicals are $25 each and can be obtained Monday through Saturday; call 209-381-2027. AARP day trip
AARP Merced Chapter 282 is planning a day trip to Roaring Camp Railroads on Aug. 11. There will be a historic narrated excursion on a 100-year-old steam train to Bear Mountain. The cost of the trip is $65 and open to the public. The train and bus will be wheelchair-accessible. Seating is limited; the deadline for reservations is Aug. 3. Harvest of Hope charitable dinner
Catholic Charities Merced will host its first Harvest of Hope event Aug. 28 at St. Patrick’s Parish, 671 E. Yosemite Ave. No-host cocktails will be at 6 p.m., followed by a barbecue dinner at 7 p.m. The event will raise funds to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and other causes. Barbecue, auction
The Merced County Historical Society will host its 25th annual old-time Western barbecue in memory of Bill Kirby at Lake Yosemite on Sept. 8. The event will feature live and silent auctions for dinners, vacation getaways, antique items, gourmet food and artwork. Tickets are $50 at the Courthouse Museum gift shop. Proceeds benefit museum programs and the Bill and Tom Kirby Agricultural Scholarship at Merced College. For more information, call the museum office at 209-723-2401.
Atwater High 1960s reunion
A big reunion for Atwater High School students who graduated from Classes of 1960-69 is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 12 at Atwater APC Hall, 1420 Third St. in Atwater. Livingston Lions Club collecting glasses
Livingston Lions Club has five new collection points for used eyeglasses in Livingston. Eyeglasses are being collected at Rite Aid, Livingston Medical Center, True Value, Livingston Fitness and Liberty Market. Take any used eyeglasses to those boxes and they will be recycled to people in need around the world. For more information, call Jill at 209-489-7533.
