City swim programs extended through end of month
The city of Merced is extending its recreational swim programs to the end of August, city officials announced.
Usually, swim programs end by the start of the school year.
“We wanted to try it out since the weather is still warm,” said Joey Chavez, the city’s recreational supervisor. “Kids will be back in school, but they will want to swim on the weekends.”
This is the last week of regular recreational swimming at the McNamara pool, 1040 Canal St. It’s open 3-6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
The regular cost for swimming is $1 for youths and $2 for 18 or older.
The Merced Satellite Rotary Club is continuing to donate funds to cover the cost of free Friday swimming at the McNamara pool.
Weekend swimming will be offered at the McNamara Park pool from 3-6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays until Aug. 30.
The pool at Golden Valley High, 2121 E. Childs Ave., will be open for recreational swimming from 3-6 p.m. Saturday. This is the last day the pool will be open because it soon will be busy with student activities.
Free adult swimming is available at the McNamara pool from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday and at the Merced High pool, 205 W. Olive Ave., from 7-8 p.m. Thursday. Adult swimming is free.
