UC Merced researchers and local artists team up for exhibit
UC Merced and the Merced County Arts Council are collaborating on an exhibit that features research from the university and community art in an exhibit titled “Interdisciplinary Art – A Mixed Media Show.”
The exhibit will be on display at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center in downtown Merced through Sept. 29. It showcases artwork developed through collaborative efforts of local artists and UC Merced researchers; works by the community completed at ArtHop, and prose and poetry from local writers.
The research-driven art includes 22 pairings of local artists and UC Merced researchers. UC Merced researchers presented their research in notebooks, figures, pictures, videos and other visual aids, and each local artists worked closely to create a piece of artwork to visually depict the research project and its broader impact.
A free reception for the exhibit will be held in the Multicultural Arts Center, 645 Main St., from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday.
Class field trip opportunities are available and will be led by an ArTree artist who participated in the project.
