Free and reduced-price meal info distributed to Atwater Elementary families

Atwater Elementary School District is distributing information about free and reduced-price meals for children enrolled with the district to all households.

Each school and the central office has a copy of the policy.

Free and reduced-price meals are available based on family income. Eligible households include those that receive food stamps, CalWORKs, Kin-GAP or FDPIR benefits. These households must complete applications by Sept. 15 if they are not notified of their eligibility.

Applications must include the names of all household members, the amount and source of income received by each member, and the signature and Social Security number of an adult in the household. If the adult who signs does not have a Social Security number, he or she must indicate that one is not available.

Those who do not want their children to receive free meals must contact the school.
