Photos | Live Oak Education Foundation holds Jack Rabbit 1-Mile Run
Charlie Koenig, 3, transforms herself into a speeding rainbow of spirit Sunday morning after grabbing the baton from her father, First District County Supervisor Manu Koenig. Charlie and Manu were participating in a mile-long relay race as they joined hundreds of others at the 5th Annual Live Oak Jack Rabbit 1-Mile Run & Student Art Contest fundraiser at Shoreline Middle School. The event, presented by the nonprofit Live Oak Education Foundation, raised funds to support schools within the Live Oak School District. Following the event's opening ceremonies, multiple 1-mile individual and relay races were run on the school's USATF-certified track, including a heat for those under the age of 6. The Jack Rabbit also included a student art show, a merchant marketplace and food vendors. A community partner expo was also part of the event and included booths from Central Fire, Cradle to Career, California Highway Patrol, Free Books for Kids, Santa Cruz County Parks and Live Oak Little League. Free community workouts were offered by local gyms GOAT and SPENGA and musical entertainment was provided by Shoreline's advanced band and pianists, DJ Jahi, Guitars not Guns and Joe Mailloux Percussion.
