Sheriff's office warns of red flag conditions, potential power shutoffs

On Tuesday, the Tehama County Sheriff's Office released information and resources for Tehama County residents to prepare for potential public safety power shutoffs and high-fire-risk conditions on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Sheriff's Office stated residents of Rancho Tehama and Black Butte Lake areas may experience a projected shutoff from Pacific Gas and Electric starting Wednesday, June 10, at 9 a.m., with estimated power restoration as late as Thursday, June 11, at 6 p.m. The times depend on weather conditions and safety inspections.

In preparation, the office urged residents to charge phones, medical devices, and backup batteries, and to have emergency supplies like flashlights and food ready.

Residents should also stay alert and avoid activities that could start a fire. If smoke is seen, the Sheriff's Office stated it should be reported immediately.

The Tehama County Sheriff's Office suggested that residents check with the department and PG&E for official updates.

On Tuesday afternoon, PG&E stated that its forecast, based on weather and fuel moisture, showed a public safety power shutoff watch for eight counties, including Tehama.

"Triple-digit heat is possible across the interior and some coastal interior valleys Thursday through the weekend, with fair, dry, and more seasonable weather likely to continue through most of next week," the forecast from PG&E's Meteorology and Analytics team stated.

The public safety power shutoff forecast showed "shutoffs likely" on Wednesday and Thursday for parts of the eight counties included in the watch, "due to high winds and dry conditions."
