Lockdown training at Golden Valley High will emulate active shooter scenario

Staff at Golden Valley High School will participate in a school lockdown training Saturday that will include live shooter situations, scenario groups and information on school safety.

Law enforcement officers from across the state will demonstrate safe lockdown procedures for settings such as a classroom or auditorium.

A live fire active shooter situation also will be demonstrated so staff members are able to acclimate to the sound of gunshots. Real guns will be used, but they will not be loaded with ammunition, said Paul Llanez, who is with Knowledge Saves Lives Inc., the company providing the training. No students will be on campus that day.

School employees from other districts are invited to observe the training.

There will be information booths and booths marketing tactical gear and school safety products.

This is the first year Merced Union High School District will provide the training.

The training will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit www.knowledgesaveslives.com.
