Atwater woman killed in Merced County collision

A 33-year-old Atwater woman died Tuesday afternoon in a crash at Beachwood Drive and Santa Fe Road in Merced.

She was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead a short time later, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A brown Ford F-150 truck and a 2005 Honda Odyssey minivan were involved in the crash around 1:40 p.m., the CHP said.

The driver of the Honda, a 75-year-old man, and an unidentified passenger in his vehicle were taken to Mercy Medical Center in Merced with undetermined injuries.

The names of the people involved in the crash were not released.

Officer Moises Onsurez said the Atwater woman was driving the pickup truck east on Santa Fe and the man was driving the Honda north on Beachwood Drive. They collided in the intersection.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation Wednesday afternoon.
