Small fire burns fence behind large auto parts store in Merced

A fence fire burned behind an automobile parts store Wednesday, but firefighters stopped it before it could spread to the business.

Merced firefighters responded around 11:47 a.m. to a storage area behind TBA Auto Parts, 948 W. 15th St., near the O Street intersection.

Flames appeared to have spread from a debris pile to a wooden fence and a carport, but firefighters prevented it from spreading to the rest of the building.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Numerous firefighters from Merced responded to the flames.

A store employee confirmed the fire would not affect the business, which remained opened Wednesday afternoon.
