Los Banos truck driver is hurt in crash
A Los Banos truck driver suffered minor injuries Friday when his vehicle overturned on Highway 140 in Merced County, the California Highway Patrol reported.
George Machado was taken to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, the CHP said..
Machado, 54, was driving a 1993 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer about 10:30 a.m., traveling east near Thornton Road at about 50 mph, CHP Officer Moises Onsurez said.
The CHP said Machado made an unsafe turning movement for “unknown reasons,” causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
Officers said the vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and overturned on the northern shoulder of the highway.
Machado was taken to Mercy Medical Center. An update on his condition was not available.
No other injuries were reported. No other vehicles were involved.
The CHP said both lanes of traffic remained closed until about 1 p.m. while emergency crews cleaned up the scene.
