Holiday open house at Courthouse Museum
The public is invited to experience a Community Christmas at the Merced County Courthouse Museum from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 7. The museum has decked the halls and filled the rooms of its historic building with close to 70 Christmas trees. Treats and traditional eggnog will be served. Live entertainment at 1 p.m. The event is free to the public. The Courthouse Museum is at 21st and N streets in Merced.
Lighted Christmas Tree Forest in Livingston
The city of Livingston will host its first annual Court of Trees “A Lighted Christmas Tree Forest” on the Old Court Theater property. The city has invited schools, nonprofits, families, clubs, churches, businesses and neighbors to get a tree and decorate it to represent them. A Lighted Christmas Tree Forest will be unveiled at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 before the annual Christmas Parade. It will then be open daily from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6-24. Candy Cane Christmas Bazaar at church
United Methodist Women will hold its 84th annual Candy Cane Christmas Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at 899 Yosemite Ave., Merced. There will be a 11:30 a.m. luncheon. Tickets are $10. Featured at the bazaar will be attic treasures, a silent auction, the candy room, bake shop, boutique and handmade items room, jam/jelly room, Christmas room, egg rolls and Hmong stitchery.
Be a literacy tutor at Merced County libraries
Share the gift of reading with another and join volunteer tutors at Merced County libraries. Call the Read And Succeed-Merced Adult Literacy Program at (209) 385-7391 to reserve a space at the orientation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2. For those interested, tutor training will be from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 6. Both events are at the Merced County Library, 2100 O St. Attendees must be age 18 or older. Reservation is required.
St. Patrick’s Christmas concert
St. Patrick’s Catholic Church plans its 10th annual Christmas Concert: The Festival of Lessons and Carols, at 5 p.m. Dec. 13 at the church, 671 E. Yosemite Ave., Merced. Several different choirs will be accompanied by a guest string quartet, and audience participation will be encouraged during the caroling portion. All ages are welcome. There is no charge, but organizers plan to take an offering. For more information, call the church office at (209) 383-3924.
Merced Camera Club holds meeting
The Merced Camera Club invites all who are interested in photography to attend their meetings at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month at the Merced County Farm Bureau, 646 S. Highway 59. Call (209) 382-0222 or (209) 761-0260.
County Mental Health Board meeting
The monthly meeting of the Merced County Mental Health Board will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Dec. 2 at 1137 B St. Cara Rupp and Jon Masuda will give a presentation on current services at the Wellness Center.
