Police ask for public’s help in locating missing Merced woman

Merced police are asking for the public’s help in gathering information about a Merced woman reported missing since Tuesday morning.

Deanna Brummell, 42, was reported missing about 7 a.m. when her co-workers arrived at work and found her car in the parking lot but no sign of Brummell.

The door to the business still was locked and the alarm was set, and she was not inside. Brummell’s keys were lying on the ground next to her car, which was unlocked.

Police said detectives were unsuccessful in locating Brummell and are attempting to follow leads. Police are treating her disappearance as suspicious.

Police Sgt. Curt Gorman confirmed Brummell is the mother of Brittany Dutra, 21, who was stabbed to death in her Merced apartment in July. Dutra was the mother of 3-year-old twin girls. Later that month, 34-year-old Oscar Saenz was charged with murder in the case.

Gorman said Dutra’s death and Brummell’s disappearance do not appear to be related.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Merced Police Department at 209-385-6905 or Detective Chris Russell at 209-385-4707.
