Merced City School District will offer Summer Academy

The Merced City School District will offer four weeks of summer classes to students in grades two through seven this year.

The Summer Academy for Academic Achievement will offer classes in science, technology, engineering, math, arts, language arts and online and experiential learning. This year, the courses will offer thematic engineering lessons tailored for each grade level. Students will learn about topics such as pollination, magnetics, solar energy, oil spill cleanup, viruses and vertical farms.

The 2016 Summer Academy session is scheduled for June 13 to July 8. Students in second through fifth grades will attend sessions at Reyes and Peterson elementary schools. Sixth and seventh grade students will attend at Cruickshank Middle School.

Breakfast, lunch and transportation will be offered to students attending the summer academy. The bus route is available on the district’s website.

Students can register through their current school site. Applications are available in school offices and on the Merced City School District website and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until mid-May.
