Applegate Zoo joins Super Bowl fun

The Applegate Zoo has caught the Zooper Bowl fever.

On Saturday, the zoo’s goats and a mountain lion will be making predictions for Sunday’s big game.

Applegate’s Zooper Bowl kicks off at noon. The family event will include a variety of non-football and football-related activities, including a bounce house and a scavenger hunt.

The zoo’s mountain lion, Mac, will be given two cardboard boxes representing the two Super Bowl contenders: the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. Whichever box the mountain lion tears apart first will be its pick, event organizers said. The zoo’s goats also will be given a choice, making their selection by picking one of two food bins.

The winner of the zoo’s scavenger hunt will receive a football “autographed” by the zoo’s animals.

Similar events take place at zoos across the country, organizers said. The zoo’s entry fee will be reduced to $1 for people wearing sports-themed gear.

The Applegate Zoo is located at 1045 W 25th St.
