Hilmar man jailed after admitting to tweeting child porn, deputies say

Merced County Sheriff's Office

A 19-year-old Hilmar man was booked into the Merced County jail on Wednesday after sheriff’s detectives found more than 1,000 Internet searches for child pornography and additional porn activity on Twitter.

Sheriff’s officials were tipped off on Tuesday by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about inappropriate photos of children committing lewd acts being spread via Twitter, deputies said in a news release.

A sheriff’s detective served a search warrant in the 21000 block of Geer Road in Hilmar on Wednesday morning, where they found records of the Internet searches, Sgt. Delray Shelton said the statement.

Vasco Daniel Gomes, 19, was arrested during a traffic stop and remains in John Latorraca Correctional Center on $500,000 bail after admitting to the activity, according to deputies.

The Sheriff’s Office encouraged parents to monitor their children’s social media use and online activity both on computers and cellphones.
