CHP reports fatal collision outside Livingston

A man in his 50s was killed Tuesday when his Mazda rammed into the back of another vehicle at Westside Boulevard and Robin Avenue outside Livingston, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The man was driving east on Westside about 5 p.m. when his gold Mazda MPV rear-ended a white Chevy Cruze at a stop sign near Robin Avenue, said Moises Onsurez, a spokesman with the CHP.

The collision pushed both vehicles across the intersection. The Cruze stopped on the shoulder of the road, and the Mazda stopped near a power pole.

The driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not immediately release his name or city of residence.

The driver of the Cruze, a man described as about 60 years old from Vallejo, was airlifted to a Modesto hospital with major injuries, including head trauma and a broken arm, Onsurez said.

It was unknown if the vehicles carried any other passengers.
