A 22-year-old Merced man was arrested Thursday after police said they found a loaded gun and marijuana plants inside his 20th Street home.

Cornelious Johnson, who police described as a known gang member, was arrested in the 100 block of West 20th Street in Merced.

The Merced Police Department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit “developed information” leading them to believe was in possession of firearms. He also had an unrelated warrant for his arrest, but details of that warrant were not immediately available.

“GVSU officers searched his residence and located a loaded 9mm handgun, ammunition and marijuana plants inside his home,” police said in a news release.

He was arrested and booked at the Merced County Jail for felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession ammunition and gang enhancements, according to police.

Merced Police are asking anyone with any information regarding this crime to contact GVSU Sgt. Rodriguez at (209) 385-4710, or the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at (209) 385-4725. The public can send information via anonymous text messages to police department by dialing “TIP411” (847411) and including the word “Comvip” as the “keyword” in the text message.
