Man rescued after ATV crash in Pacheco Pass area
A man in his mid 20s has been rescued following an hours-long operation to pull him from a deep ravine in the Cottonwood Creek Wildlife Area of Pacheco Pass, according to Calfire, Merced County.
The man, who was said to be working in the area, apparently suffered injuries in an ATV crash that landed him trapped in the remote area, about five miles from Highway 152. He was able to call 911 for help. He was located by a state park ranger, authorities said.
High-tension wires in the area prevented helicopters from being able to get to the man, authorities said.
Rescuers used about 400 feet of rope to bring the man up to safety. He was rescued Monday evening after several hours and flown to a regional trauma center with unspecified injuries. An update on his condition was not available Monday.
His name was not released.
Calfire Battalion Chief Jeremy Rahn said several agencies were involved in the rescue effort, including Calfire, Fish and Wildlife, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, the state park’s authorities and emergency medical services.
