Merced County firefighters tame blaze in Santa Nella

Merced County and Cal Fire firefighters responded to a blaze near the Santa Nella McDonald’s just before daybreak Wednesday.

The fire consumed a 1,500-square-foot building that McDonald’s used for storage for restaurant supplies near Highway 33 and Henry Miller Road.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, the building was engulfed in fire, said Jeremy Rahn, battalion chief for the Merced County Office of Emergency Services.

Firefighters contained the blaze by about 5:15 a.m. Rahn estimated the damage to be about $200,000.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection sent two engines to the fire, along with four engines from the Merced County Fire Department, two water tenders, a battalion chief and 15 firefighters total.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
