A young boy suffered minor burns Tuesday when the vehicle in which he was riding caught fire and crashed into a fence on Kelly Avenue, the Merced Police Department confirmed.

The child’s name and age were not available.

The Buick Regal had some type of mechanical issue and began smoking while driving on Yosemite Parkway, Sgt. Tony Aponte told the Sun-Star.

The vehicle’s brakes failed, and the car rolled into a fence in the 1900 block of Kelly Avenue. It was unclear if the child would need medical care, police said.

There were no other injuries reported.
