CHP reports fatal crash on Highway 99 in Merced County

A Sacramento man was killed Monday afternoon when a Ford pickup crossed the center divider on Highway 99 in Livingston and slammed into his Dodge Challenger in the southbound lane, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The driver of the Challenger was identified as a 50-year-old Sacramento man who suffered fatal injuries. His name was not released. A passenger in his vehicle suffered major injuries and was taken to a Modesto hospital, Officer Moises Onsurez told the Sun-Star.

No further information was available regarding the passenger.

The driver of the Ford F-350 truck who crossed the center divider suffered minor injuries. The driver’s name was not immediately available, Onsurez said.

The crash was reported at 12:43 p.m. on Highway 99, just north of Winton Parkway.

After striking the Challenger, the pickup crashed into a Toyota pickup, then struck the rear of a Freightliner tractor-trailer rig, the CHP said.

No other injuries were reported.

Both southbound lanes of traffic were closed for more than three hours on Highway 99 at Winton Parkway and Collier Road.
