Dry conditions spark fire restrictions in Yosemite
Prolonged hot and dry conditions prompted Yosemite National Park this week to implement fire restrictions.
“Yosemite National Park is experiencing high fire danger,” according to a statement posted on the park’s website.
The restrictions prohibit camp fires, cooking fires and charcoal fires within the park below the 6,000-foot elevation.
Campfires and cooking fires may still be used in designated campgrounds, picnic areas and residential areas in developed portions of the park.
Portable stoves using pressurized gas, liquid fuel or propane are allowed, including alcohol stoves.
Additionally, smoking is not allowed unless in a closed vehicle, a campground or picnic area where wood and charcoal fires are allowed, or in a designated smoking area. Public buildings are closed to smoking at all times.
