Gang unit reports finding convicted felon with weapons

A 36-year-old Merced man has been arrested on suspicion of felony weapons charges after the Merced Police Department Gang Violence Suppression Unit acted on information that a convicted felon was selling narcotics from his residence.

Daryl Dupree was taken into custody on Friday when unit officers went to his home on the 1900 block of Shadow Brook Drive, police said.

Officers said they found a 9mm semi-automatic handgun, ammunition and marijuana inside Dupree’s residence.

Dupree has a criminal history that includes felony charges of failing to register as a sex offender and misdemeanor charges of spousal abuse and contempt of court, according to Merced County records.

Dupree was booked into the Merced County Jail on Friday on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. According to the sheriff’s website, Dupree was released Saturday.

Merced police are asking anyone with information to contact the Gang Violence Suppression Unit at 209-385-4710, or the Merced Police Department Tipster Line at 209-385-4725.

Information can also be sent through anonymous text messages to the Police Department by dialing “TIP411” (847411) and including the word “Comvip” in the text message.
