Extreme heat brings cooling stations around Merced County
With temperatures reaching up to 105 degrees this week, according to the National Weather Service, Merced County will have cooling stations Wednesday through Friday.
Libraries, police stations and community centers will be open.
The Bus will provide rides free of charge on fixed-routes to and from cooling stations through Friday as well. If residents have a disability that prevent them from using the fixed route bus they can call 209-384-3111.
According to a statement by Merced County, residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing and during the hottest parts of the day keep physical activity to a minimum.
Profuse sweating, dizziness, weakness, headaches, blurred vision, nausea, extreme tiredness, hot dry skin or cold damp skin are all heat-related conditions according to the statement.
Residents are advised to not leave children, elderly or pets unattended in a vehicle.
