A funeral service for Merced native Louis Moua is set for 8 a.m. Aug. 6 in Yosemite Hall at the Merced County fairground, family members said.

Moua, 26, died during an early morning run July 8 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington, according to base officials.

David Lee, Moua’s brother-in-law, said the U.S. Army infantryman’s funeral service will be performed in the Hmong tradition, with a wake ending at 8 a.m. Aug. 8.

After the service, charter buses will be available to transport people who want to attend Moua’s burial at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery near Dixon, Lee said. The burial is scheduled for about noon Aug. 8.

Lee previously described Moua as the “superhero” of his family. Moua is survived by his wife and two daughters, ages 3 and 4.

Moua’s death was still under investigation Thursday, according to 7th Infantry Division officials. According to Pierce County medical examiners, Moua was living in Lacey, Wash.

Moua was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, according to the 7th Infantry Division. He arrived on base in September 2015.
