First cutting of alfalfa hay is on the ground in Merced County

A report on crop conditions for Merced County for the week ending April 24 has been released by the Merced County Agricultural Commissioner’s office.

Oat harvest continues, and the first cutting of alfalfa is on the ground. Corn and cotton continue to be planted.

Walnut blight spraying continues. Outdoor nursery stock field fumigations are ongoing, and the strawberry harvest has begun.

Sweet potato field fumigations continue. Bell pepper, sweet potato and tomato planting continue. Cantaloupe and honeydew planting has begun. Asparagus harvest continues.

Supplemental livestock feeding continues. Rangeland conditions are good.
