Ag equipment fire causes $100K damage in Livingston; no injuries

The Merced County Fire Department responded early Thursday morning to a fertilizer dryer/hopper fire in the 12800 block of Highway 140 in Livingston that caused an estimated $100,000 in damage before it was brought under control.

No injuries were reported.

The machine was about 30 feet high and located next to one of the main buildings at the facility. Firefighters extinguished the fire by gaining access to the roof of the building next to the hopper. Fire damage was mostly contained to the dryer/hopper, with some fire extension through attached conduits. Fire units were back at their stations by around 10 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Responding units included three3 Merced County fire engines, three Merced County water tenders, one hazmat unit, two chief officers and one environmental health officer.
