Atwater cheesemaker claims three medals at world championship event

An Atwater-based cheesemaker won three medals at the 2025 World Cheese Awards held in Bern, Switzerland, in November.

According to a news release, Joseph Gallo Farms, the maker of Joseph Farms Cheese, won a silver medal and two bronze medals during the competition. The company entered eight cheeses in the event.

The cheesemaker won a silver medal for its string cheese and bronze medals for its pepper jack cheese and whole-milk mozzarella.

“We’re incredibly proud of these awards,” said Mike Gallo, the company’s CEO. “Every medal reflects the dedication, craftsmanship, and innovation of our entire team. As we continue strengthening the brand and expanding our reach, recognitions like this reinforce our commitment to producing exceptional cheese for families in California and throughout the U.S. and Mexico.”

The global competition brought together more than 5,000 cheeses from over 40 countries, the news release said.

Joseph Farms Cheese, which is celebrating its 80th anniversary, also won numerous gold-level and first-place national awards in 2026, the news release said.
