Every Honda SUV Ranked By Cargo Space From Smallest to Largest

Honda does practical SUVs better than most

Honda SUVs may not be as flashy as some rivals, but they're hard to beat for sheer versatility. From the subcompact HR-V to the three-row Pilot, the company's SUVs all offer a competitive amount of interior space for their size. If cargo capacity is your priority, we've ranked every Honda SUV here from least to most spacious-based on the amount of space behind their second rows. As you'll see, vehicle size, trim level, and powertrain type all impact how much cargo these Hondas can haul.

6. Honda HR-V: 24.4 Cubic Feet

In sixth spot, unsurprisingly, is the HR-V. This is Honda's smallest crossover, so its size immediately puts it at a disadvantage. Still, the 24.4 cubic feet of space behind the second row isn't cramped, managing to just edge out the Toyota Corolla Cross in volume. There's enough room for about seven carry-on suitcases in the back of the HR-V, and you can fold down the back seats to increase total capacity to 55.1 cubic feet. Comfortable seating and enough legroom front and rear make this a small SUV that's easy to live with.

5. Honda Prologue: 25.2 Cubic Feet

Despite being over 12 inches longer than the HR-V, the Prologue barely has more space behind its back seats at 25.2 cubic feet. The Touring and Elite trims actually have less space than the HR-V at 23.7 cubic feet. When the second-row seats are folded, the base Prologue can free up 57.7 cubic feet of space. It's not all bad news for the Honda EV, though. The Prologue's length frees up a generous amount of passenger space, with a spacious 39.4 inches of rear legroom. Sadly, the Prologue may not be around for much longer.

4. Honda CR-V e:FCEV: 25.2 Cubic Feet

The CR-V e:FCEV has exactly the same amount of space behind its second row as the Prologue, but we've ranked the e:FCEV one spot higher since it has more total cargo space when the back row is folded. That figure is 61 cubic feet, which is useful for accommodating larger items. However, the CR-V e:FCEV's overall cargo capacity is a lot lower than the regular CR-V's, due to the former's fitment of hydrogen tanks. This CR-V's unique powertrain consists of a single electric motor, those hydrogen tanks, and a 17.7-kWh battery. Therefore, it has the benefits of an EV and a hydrogen model in one, but the complex powertrain does steal a lot of this Honda's cargo space.

3. Honda CR-V: 39.3 Cubic Feet

The standard Honda CR-V's cargo space makes it one of the most spacious and versatile crossovers in the compact segment. It has 39.3 cubic feet of space behind its second row, enough for 12 carry-on bags-that's five more bags than the HR-V can accommodate. Fold the back seats down and you have access to 76.5 cubes of space, also very generous for the segment.

The extra components of the CR-V Hybrid rob the crossover of some space, but not as much as in the e:FCEV. In the hybrid, you get 36.3 cubic feet behind the second row and 71.8 behind the first row.

2. Honda Passport: 44 Cubic Feet

This isn't the Honda SUV with the most cargo space, but it gets close. With 44 cubic feet behind the second row, you can cram 16 carry-on suitcases into the Passport. Fold down the back seats, and the Passport's cargo volume expands to 83.8 cubic feet. The longer wheelbase in this generation of the Passport certainly helps free up more space; rear legroom is 1.3 inches more than in the older model. Now tougher than before, most Passports are TrailSport variants with a special suspension tune and all-terrain tires, so they can go a bit further off-road than the old one-and there's plenty of room for all your adventure gear.

1. Honda Pilot: 48.5 Cubic Feet

No other Honda SUV can match the Pilot for spaciousness, which is unsurprising since this is the largest Honda SUV on sale. It's Honda's only three-row SUV, so you have access to 48.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the third row folded flat. Even with the third row up, the cargo area measures 18.6 cubic feet, enough for six carry-ons. With both back rows folded flat, the Pilot avails 87 cubic feet of space. Space in the third row is reasonable for average-sized adults, and this SUV can accommodate up to eight people in total. There are storage spaces aplenty, including multiple cupholders dotted around the cabin.

If you must have as much cargo space as possible from a Honda, you need to look beyond its range of SUVs. The Odyssey minivan trounces even the Pilot for space-and it's not even close. There are 32.8/86.6/140.7 cubic feet behind the third/second/first rows of the Odyssey. Even with all the seats up, it has more cargo space than the Prologue. It may not look as butch as a Honda SUV, but the Odyssey shows that minivans remain unrivaled for sheer versatility.
