Samsung C&T partners with Japan's Infroneer over infrastructure work

SEOUL, July 1 (UPI) -- South Korean contractor Samsung C&T said Wednesday it forged a strategic partnership with Japan's Infroneer Holdings to pursue new opportunities in global infrastructure development.

The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday at Infroneer's head office in Tokyo.

Under the agreement, Samsung C&T said that it would build on its global construction track record and international network to create synergies with Infroneer's strengths in infrastructure development.

Infroneer is a major Japanese infrastructure services company with extensive experience in operating assets such as airports, highways and wastewater facilities, according to Samsung C&T.

"The agreement is expected to combine Infroneer's expertise in infrastructure investment and development beyond the traditional construction business with Samsung C&T's capabilities in global project execution," Samsung C&T CEO Oh Se-chul said in a statement.

"We are confident that the partnership will lead to a broad range of business opportunities in Japan and international markets while laying the foundation for closer long-term collaboration," he added.

Infroneer CEO Kazunari Kibe also welcomed the bilateral alliance.

"The partnership will enable the two companies to leverage their respective strengths to generate greater value in Japan and overseas," he said in a statement.

"The collaboration will open the door to new business opportunities while strengthening cooperation in infrastructure development and investment."

The share price of Samsung C&T dipped 7.36% on the Seoul bourse Wednesday, while the benchmark KOSPI fell 2.04%.
