Road closures, construction this week in Merced County
Drivers are being asked to make room for possible delays during their daily commutes this week as roadwork takes place in several locations.
The California Department of Transportation announced road closures on Highway 99 and traffic alerts for highways 59 and 33. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes when possible.
On Highway 99
The southbound lanes of 16th Street under Highway 99 from G to D street will be closed from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Thursday and Friday.
Crews also will conduct road construction and bridge activities on Highway 99 from 15th Street to South Avenue. The southbound offramp from Highway 99 to eastbound Highway 140 is scheduled to reopen in spring 2016. The southbound onramp from G Street to Highway 99 also will open next spring.
Caltrans expects the connector ramp from southbound 99 near 17th and Main Street to eastbound Highway 140 to reopen in December.
Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
Work on Highway 99 is part of a $32.4 million project that began in June 2012. The project was set to replace the bridge decks on the 15th Street undercrossing and the East Merced overhead structure.
On Highway 59
Caltrans is performing one-way traffic control on Highway 59 from the Edendale Creek Bridge to Escaladian Canal Bridge for bridge work. Crews began working on Monday and will continue until Thursday from 6 a.m to 6 p.m. Motorists should expect 15-minute delays.
On Highway 33
A work zone alert also has been issued on Highway 33 from Cypress Road to Poso Slough Bridge, near Linden Avenue, for bridge work. Crews will be working through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists can see delays of up 15 minutes.
