Another theme park shuts down for coronavirus. This time it’s Six Flags
Six Flags America will be temporarily closing until the end of March as coronavirus continues to spread, the park said.
“Since the onset of COVID-19, we have followed the guidance of federal, state, and local authorities,” CEO Mike Spanos said in a statement Friday. “As of today, many states have declared a state of emergency and are recommending that all non-essential gatherings of large groups be postponed or canceled.”
There are two parks in California, including Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo.
There are also parks in Arizona, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Maryland and New York.
The California Department of Public Health said there were 198 reported cases of coronavirus and four deaths in the state as of Thursday. Nationally, there have been 1,629 reported cases and 41 deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Six Flags is among several theme parks and attractions to close during the coronavirus pandemic.
Disneyland announced Thursday that it would be shutting down through the month.. Universal Studios Hollywood is also closing its doors to guests, McClatchy News reported.
