Step into the ultimate home for the beach bum. Built by surfing icon, it’s $13 million

The ultimate house for the beach bum is on the market for $12.995 million.

The Malibu CA home was designed by surf legend Matt Kivlin, who later went on to become a well-known architect in Southern California.

“Marrying his love of surfing and profession of architecture in a cheerful home that would charm any surfing enthusiast, Kivlin’s home is just down the lane to the Pacific Ocean waves,” wrote TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, which reported on the listing.

Kivlin’s 4,120-square-foot, four-bedroom main house, sitting on a .75-acre private compound in the bluffs above Paradise Cove in the gated enclave called Sea Lane, is open and lets the sun shine in. The previous owners added a contemporary modern guest house with a gourmet kitchen. Across a huge wrap-around deck, there is a separate steel-and-glass studio and media-production space. There are five bedrooms and six baths in total.

“This exceptional opportunity is ideal for creative souls, families or anyone looking for this coveted lifestyle,” according to the official listing.

Out on the lush grounds, there is a salt water pool and spa, outdoor kitchen, sun-drenched decks, fire pits, ponds, a lawn, fruit trees and vegetable gardens.

The ocean-view property offers direct deeded access to one of Malibu’s best sandy beaches, according to the listing.

“Plus, there is ample room for family and friends who won’t want to leave this private paradise,” the listing reads.

The property is listed by Mark Gruskin of Westside Estate Agency in Malibu.

Kivlin, who died in 2014 at age 85, designed and built surfboards, becoming known for the Malibu Board, the first balsa surfboard, a shorter, lighter model that improved maneuverability. He was called California’s best rider in the late 1940s and early ‘50s, according to legacy.com.

As an architect and builder, he designed more than 200 custom homes in Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica and Marina del Rey, in addition to 80 in Malibu.
