California police rescue lost dog stranded on highway — a beloved stuffed one, that is

A California police department did everything they could to find a lost dog — a stuffed dog, that is.

The North Sacramento Area Facebook page received a message Wednesday that a tiny plush dog named Toffee was missing.

“Toffee had an unfortunate incident involving a little girl, a moving vehicle on the freeway, and an opened car window,” California Highway Patrol for North Sacramento said on Facebook. “Needless to say, Toffee learned how to window dive and was somewhere stranded on I-80 in the area of the Antelope Scales.”

Officers went to the area Thursday where Toffee was last seen to try to look for the favorite stuffed animal, California Highway Patrol said. An officer found the dog.

Toffee had lost a leg from the fall, officers said. He was taken to the North Sacramento Area Office to be reunited with his young owner, along with a few extra stuffed animals.

“(We) found some service animals to assist in his recovery (since he lost a leg), and was ultimately returned to his owner,” California Highway Patrol said.
