Plane crashes into neighborhood near Southern California high school, officials say

A small plane crashed into a Southern California neighborhood Monday just blocks from a high school, authorities said.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office said a plane crashed in Santee, a town about 20 miles northeast of San Diego. At least two people have died, San Diego County Fire officials said.

The plane went down about two blocks from Santana High School, officials said.

Two homes were destroyed and a third home was damaged after catching fire from the crash, according to Fox 5.

At least two people had burn injuries, the Associated Press reported.

School officials said all students were “secure” and would be dismissed if they didn’t have classes to attend.

Authorities did not say where the plane was traveling from or what may have caused the crash, according to NBC San Diego.
