A 23-year-old mountain bicyclist had to be airlifted from the Santa Monica Mountains in Southern California with serious injuries after a fall, firefighters said.

A 23-year-old mountain bicyclist injured in a fall had to be rescued by helicopter from a Los Angeles-area trail on Saturday, Dec. 11, firefighters say.

The man, who was wearing a helmet, suffered serious head, arm and shoulder injuries in a fall about 11:30 a.m. in the Santa Monica Mountains, Los Angeles firefighters reported.

A Los Angeles Fire Department helicopter airlifted the bicyclist to a hospital after rescuers carried him to it on a stretcher, firefighters said.

The incident happened on a fire road adjacent to Topanga State Park, firefighters said.

No further information was available as of Sunday morning, Dec. 12.
