A body was found in South Lake Tahoe by a wildlife photographer, police said.

A wildlife photographer was taking pictures in a snowy meadow when he discovered a body, California police said.

The photographer was in a meadow behind a US Bank on Saturday, Jan. 22, and spotted human remains, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department said.

Police found a human body buried in the snow.

“The body appeared to have been buried in the late December snowstorms, and became discoverable due to snow melt from the recent warmer temps,” the police department said in a Jan. 24 news release.

The person’s identity, age and sex are not known, police said. The body will undergo an autopsy to determine the person’s identity and cause of death.

“Foul play is not suspected,” according to police.

“If any members of the public have information helpful to this investigation, please contact Detective Allen Molesworth with South Lake Tahoe PD 530-542-6138,” police said.
