A 38-year-old caregiver in California is accused of stealing a Rolex watch and $200 from a 97-year-old World War II veteran, authorities said.

A woman reported Thursday, March 3, that her husband’s watch and cash had been stolen in Apple Valley, a police news release reported.

Detectives traced the theft to the man’s caregiver, a Hesperia woman, police said. They recovered the Rolex but the woman had already spent the cash.

She faces charges including felony theft of an elder by a caretaker.

Police ask that anyone with information on the case call 760-240-7400 or leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-782-7463.

Apple Valley is a city of 76,000 people north of San Bernardino in San Bernardino County.
