55-year-old man uses drone to drop lit fireworks from sky, California police say
A 55-year-old man dropped ignited fireworks from his in-flight drone in California, police said.
Police said they responded to a report of fireworks around 12:30 a.m. June 3 in American Canyon, according to a June 3 Facebook post.
This report was just one of many over the past several weeks from residents who have heard “large booms,” American Canyon police said.
When police responded, they saw a drone lighting a firework in the sky.
Police said they followed the drone back to a 55-year-old man who was holding it. The aircraft had a device that lit fireworks, police said. They seized it for evidence.
The man was arrested and cited for dangerous fireworks, a misdemeanor, police said.
“This incident happened just days after the Old Fire broke out in Napa County, burning over 500 acres. ACPD would like to remind the community that fireworks are illegal in Napa County and in the city of American Canyon,” the department said.
Old Fire burned about 570 over five days in Napa County, according to CAL Fire.
Wildfire season runs from May through October in California.
